Battle of the Books

2008–2009 School Year
5th and 6th Graders

The Battle of the Books club is a program similar to a literature club. It is designed for students in 5th and 6th grade who enjoy reading and discussing what they have read. Students read books from a predetermined book list (outlined below), meet twice a week to discuss the book and occasionally have competitions using questions about the books. It is very important that the members complete the reading of each book before the assigned discussion dates. In the spring, a group of five students from the club will be chosen to compete against students from other Catholic schools in the area. All Club members and parents are invited to attend the May competition to cheer on their competitors.

The books listed may be borrowed from libraries or purchased at local bookstores or through the Internet. If you love to read and are interested in joining the Battle of the Books Club please contact the school librarian.  Meetings will be held from 3:15pm to 4:15pm on Thursday afternoons in the parish hall and also on Tuesdays during lunch and recess.
