Odyssey of the Mind
Every year St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic School promotes participation in Odyssey of the Mind (OM). OM teaches students to creatively solve problems in a team environment while having fun. Teams are assembled by age and grade to solve one of five problems provided by the National Odyssey of the Mind organization. The teams present their solution in the form of an eight minute presentation, written and produced solely by the team members, to a panel of judges at a local high school in March. Winning teams go on to the state level and then world finals are in June. The teams hold weekly meetings and as competition nears, additional meetings are usually added to design their costumes and props. Each team requires a coach, someone 18 years of age or older who can supervise the team without providing outside assistance and a judge for competition day.
